Key Stage 4 results August 2017

The 2017 Year 11 cohort were the first to take the new GCSE examinations in English Language, English Literature and Mathematics providing grade on the 9 – 1 scale. Other subjects were examined under the old specifications but with tougher standards while retaining the old A* – G grades.

The government stated that a grade 4 is equivalent to a grade C and will be classified as a ‘standard pass’ and Grade 5 will be classified as a ‘strong pass’.

Due to these significant changes in the examination and grading systems comparison with results from previous years is not possible.

57.8% of students gained both English [Language and/or Literature] and Mathematics at grade 4 or above.

21.4% of students gained the EBacc measure gaining a grade 5/C in English, Mathematics, 2 Sciences, Humanities [History or Geography] and German.

44% of students gained an overall achievement above expectation.

In many subjects the A*-C pass rate was above that nationally including:

Art, Business Studies, Geography, History, Physical Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and ICT

Attainment across the BTec subjects remained strong.
